The news office of Anhui province published information on April 8 about the province's landscaping project, which deals with enlarging the amount of green space per capita to 12 square meters, reaching all the major national garden city standards and making more than 60 percent of counties reach provincial garden city standards by 2017.

At present, Anhui province possesses 11 national garden cities, 3 national garden counties, 1 national garden town, 8 provincial garden cities and 16 garden counties. The landscaping project, which has already been started, is expected to obtain substantive results by 2017 and to be finished by 2020.

By then, when the project is completed, all residents in Anhui province will be living in a much better environment.

The goal for 2017:

In Anhui province: more green space in gardens of over 200 million square meters, plus over 1400 new green spots on the streets;

In urban areas: green coverage ratio reaching 38 percent, the green space ratio reaching 33 percent and green space per capita reaching 12 square meters;

In counties: green coverage ratio reaching 36 percent, the green space ratio reaching 31 percent and green space per capita reaching 10 square meters.
