With over 20 years of working experience in software and the Internet, Tao has had a hand in the development of many software products.
From 1987 to1991, he studied at Sichuan University, majoring in computational mathematics and application software.
Between 1992 and 1995, he worked as manager of Chinese application development at the Giant Group, a reputed educational institute. During that time he was in charge of developing the handwritten computer system.
In 1997, he served as vice president of Bejing Kingsoft Company, taking charge of technical product development. Kingsoft PowerWord, Kingsoft WordEasy and Kingsoft Chivalric programs were developed under his leadership.
In 1998, he co-founded Beijing Herosoft Company. He served as general manager and launched the Super Player 5.0.
In 1999, he established CSDN.net. He later established Programmer magazine in 2000. He also co-founded Broadview Publishing Company in 2003.
In 2005, he co-founded Itcast Training Company.
