Civilian nuclear power plant established in Zhongguancun

The Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has established a power station dedicated to the peaceful use of nuclear technology and covering an area of 20,000 square meters, in the Huairou sub-park of Zhongguancun Science Park, Beijing.

The plant aims to support projects concerning the incubation and industrialization of civilian nuclear technology. The first phase of the incubation project involves an accelerator for industrial radiation, nuclear medicine imaging equipment, and high-tech precision and safety inspection instruments. The institute also aims to establish a platform to provide professional knowledge to the science park.

The project involves total investment of 150 million yuan ($24.6 million) and it is expected to create 827 million yuan in output value and to go public within five years.
