The administrative committee of Zhongguancun Science Park announced the names of the 2013 Zhongguancun Entrepreneur Stars on Nov 28, following a selection process aimed at discovering entrepreneurs who demonstrate the spirit of innovation and talent in management.

The activity involved all 16 sub-parks of the Zhongguancun Science Park, and mainly involved start-ups and relatively new companies. It was sponsored by the Beijing Zhongguancun High-Tech Corporation Association and supported by the Beijing municipal science and technology committee, and the administrative committees of Zhongguancun and Haidian park. The selection process involved stages including field research and professional appraisal, and the judging panel selected 20 entrepreneurs as "2013 Zhongguancun Entrepreneur Stars", 10 entrepreneurs as "2013 Zhongguancun Entrepreneurship Pioneers" and three companies as "2013 Zhongguancun Entrepreneur Scouts".

The winning enterprises mainly concern developing seed companies, which usually have stable core team members, key technology and products, and are also recognized by the market.

The thirty companies on the list are from Haidian park, Shijingshan Park, Zhongguancun Electronic Town, Desheng park, Yizhuang and Miyun park, and they concern many national strategic emerging industries - such as information technology, energy conservation and environment protection, biological medicine, high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy and new material.

The average compound growth rate of the twenty entrepreneur stars reached 177.98 percent and the figure for ten entrepreneurs was 94.02 percent. Seven of the 30 winning entrepreneurs have studied overseas, and the 30 companies own 297 patents and 372 software copyrights.

Many financial organizations, such as the Zhongguancun branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Beijing Zhonghai Entrepreneurship and Investment Ltd and China Securities Ltd – selected as Entrepreneur Scouts – participated in the event.
