Tuspark Venture Ltd – the venture investment arm of Tsinghua Science Park -and OMZ group - the biggest heavy machinery manufacturing firm in Russia - signed a strategic co-operation framework agreement in Beijing on Dec 9, which allows OMZ to open a branch in Tsinghua Science Park - the first "mega corporation" in the park.
Affiliated with Tsinghua University, the park is considered to be the best university-owned science park in China, and promotes technological innovation and entrepreneurship. It is located in the core area of Zhongguancun Science Park, and has absorbed over 400 companies from various fields.
OMZ is the world's third largest manufacturer of nuclear power reactor vessels, and one of the world top five ultra-large special steel manufacturers. The group is also involved in other business - such as oil and gas projects and multiple equipment manufacturing.
Senior executives from both sides and officials of Zhongguancun Science Park attended the signing ceremony.
Experts from the Tsinghua University Tuspark Research Institute for Innovation have in the past been invited to conduct distance education video classes for young entrepreneurs participating in the "Innovative Industrial Project" training camp in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Mei Meng, director of the Tsinghua Science Park Development Center, said the cooperation between Tuspark and OMZ is expected to offer a valuable opportunity for integrating resources.
Lu Jiang, head of the International Cooperation Division of the Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park, said that the cooperation would likely attract more key enterprises from Russia to Zhongguancun.
