Zhongguancun hastens developmental speed

Innovations in Zhongguancun Science Park delivered tangible results. The State Intellectual Property Office officially agreed to make Zhongguancun one of the first demonstration zones for the cluster development of the national intellectual property service industry this April.

Zhongguancun accelerated construction work on an economic structure dominated by high-tech industry and, within the area, the scientific research and technical service industry experienced robust growth.

In the first four months of 2016, Zhongguancun saw steady growth with a more than 30-percent increase on last year’s product revenue over the same period. Its high-tech service industry also maintained rapid growth and the total revenue grew by 33.3 percent over the same period last year.

The product revenue in Zhongguancun reached 155.19 billion yuan ($23.66 billion), with a year-by-year increase of 32 percent. This was 15 percentage points higher than in the same four months last year and accounted for 24.9 percent of the total revenue growth.

From January to April, the total revenue of the enterprises reached 1117.98 billion yuan, a year-by-year increase of 15.6 percent and 2.8 percentage points higher than in the same period last year. This was also 0.2 percentage points higher than for the first quarter.

Also, in the initial four months, the number of patent applications in Zhongguancun swelled to 17,986, an increase of 16.2 percent. The number of patents granted also increased by 8.1 percent to 11,570 patents.

Total revenue of scientific research and technical service industries continued to grow by 42.5 percent, while the software information service industry and commerce service industry also experienced hearty advancement, with its total revenue growing by 24.8 percent and 21.3 percent respectively, over the same period from the year before.

Zhongguancun's suburban parks, such as Shunyi, Huairou, Tongzhou and Daxing, have been developing rapidly in the new year. Shunyi produced 362.7 million yuan in total revenue, which increased by 15.5 percent from last year. Total revenues of Huairou, Tongzhou and Daxing grew by 61.3 percent, 60.7 percent and 44.7 percent, respectively, over the same period in the previous year.
