Economic growth in Beijing Zhongguancun Software Park (Zpark), the first National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone in China, is strongly supported by its technical innovation. In the first four months of 2016, total revenue generated by regional enterprises above a designated size reached over 1.1 trillion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 15.6%.
The latest data also shows that from January to April, 24.9% of total revenue, or 155.19 billion yuan, was contributed by technology industries; a 32% year-on-year increase.
Modern services brought revenue of about RMB 715.37 billion yuan to Zpark, a 20.8% year-on-year increase. The growth rate was 15.1% higher than that of 2015. Specifically, revenue from scientific research and technical services as well as software information services rose by 42.5% and 24.8% respectively.
At the same time, 17,986 inventions in Zpark were patented in the four months, up by 16.2% year-on-year. Authorizations of 5,374 invention patents were issued, up by 48.2% year-on-year.
Zpark is called the Chinese Silicon Valley. After 20 years of development, it is now a 488-square-kilometer innovation park with intensely clustered high-tech innovation resources. It is also the home of a group of high-tech enterprises like Lenovo, Jingdong, Xiaomi, and BOE. In 2015, the park’s total revenue exceeded 4 trillion yuan, while its average annual growth rate reached 20% during the 12th Five-Year-Plan period (2011-2015).
