Medical device park opens at Zhongguancun
Zhongguancun Medical Devices Park opened on June 18, with an opening ceremony held at Daxing Biomedicine Industrial Base.
The ceremony was organized by the Zhongguancun administrative committee, Daxing district government, and Zhongguuancun Development Group.
More than 300 experts, governmental leaders and representatives from enterprises, colleges, and investment institutions from home and abroad, attended the event.
The park will promote the development of high-end medical apparatuses, help form an industrial cluster, and provide an open and sharing platform for innovation and entrepreneurship. It will also promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, according to Chen Wenqi, an official of the Zhongguancun administrative committee.

Xuan Hong, general manager of Zhongguuancun Development Group, said in his speech at the ceremony, that China has a promising future in the medical equipment industry, and Zhongguancun Medical Devices Park faces an encouraging start.
As of April this year, the park has attracted some 100 enterprises and a large number of skilled people, among them four academicians and three from the "One Thousand Foreign Experts Project", a recruitment program for global experts initiated in 2008.
More than 20 enterprises have also agreed or plan to agree to settle at the park. "The park highlights the development pattern of Daxing Biomedicine Industrial Base which is smart, innovative and intensive," said Yang Beibei, deputy chief of Daxing district. "The government will strive to provide enterprises and institutions with better and more convenient services."
The event coincided with a series of activities, including the unveiling ceremony of academician workstations, key transfers to enterprises settling down in the new park, and the launch ceremony for the Design of Medical Devices Conference (DMD), which is scheduled to take place in Beijing from Nov 28 to 29.
Some colleges and universities, including Beijing University of Technology, also signed cooperation agreements at the event, paving a solid foundation for scientific innovation and providing a strong impetus to drive the development of medical devices industry.
Arther Erdman, president of DMD and director of the Medical Devices Center at the University of Minnesota, attended the launch ceremony for the November conference and spoke highly of the park's design and planning.
