Legal publicity goes with Spring Festival couplets

To celebrate the approaching Spring Festival, the justice bureau and legal publicity office of Dongtou District in Zhejiang province sent 150 couplets to citizens together with associated calligraphy on Jan 16.

Chinese Spring Festival falls on Jan 27 this year. On its eve, people will paste a couplet written on red paper on their door to express the happy and prosperous atmosphere of the festival. Each couplet is composed of two antithetical sentences placed on both sides of the door with a horizontal scroll bearing an inscription, usually an auspicious phrase, above the gate.

On this occasion, five members from the calligraphy association were invited to a local park to write couplets with meaningful words such as “Virtuous harmony is found at home while the rule of law guarantees household safety”, and “When law has people’s support, the whole of China feels warm. And when policy has people’s support, the whole of China is stable.”
