25% of software installed in Australia pirated

According to a latest report from the International Data Corporation (IDC), a quarter of all installed software in Australia in 2009 was pirated. The Business Software Alliance, saying, “A loss of sales from software resulting from the piracy totaled USD 22.5 million”, authorized the report. The report also indicated that a decrease of 10% in piracy would create 3789 new jobs, a GDP increase of USD 338 million and a tax increase of USD 44 million in the coming two to four years.
