The official website of the Ministry of Culture recently released a Notice which clearly states that national intangible cultural heritage project will establish a warning and exit mechanism.
According to the Notice, if a national representative project is verified as in deteriorative existing condition or encounters serious problems due to inadequate protective measures, the Ministry of Culture should warn the relevant applicable area (units) or protective units to rectify and reform within a time limit and declare the warning to the public. If the condition of the project is not significantly improved, the relevant units will lose protective eligibility and the national representative label will be removed.
Liu Kuili, honorary President of China Folklore Society, said such a provision changes the "values application but ignores protection" needs currently existing in Chinese intangible heritage protection.
