Following extensive bilateral development, China’s State Intellectual Property Office will use the same patent classification system as the European Patent Office from January 2014, it has been announced. The two offices will categorise patents via a series of symbols that will be recognised in the same way by each organisation. The agreement, sealed in a memorandum of understanding, will facilitate improved patent searching for examiners and intellectual property researchers.
