Chaoyang criminal charges
The first criminal case in Chaoyang district for violation of a software copyright was recently heard as the Chaoyang District People's Procuratorate prosecuted a suspect surnamed Ren who it said illegally acquired the source code of an online game in 2012, made some modifications and uploaded it onto a private overseas server. The court was told he made illegal income of more than 280,000 yuan ($45,186) by August 2014.

Copyright trade center
A national-level copyright trade center was started on Jan 15 at Sino-Singapore Eco-City offering registration, assistance in rights protection and financial services. Officials of the center said that it will become the largest copyright bank on the Chinese mainland. Its resources now include more than 2,400 movies, more than 2,600 documentaries, 500 TV dramas, 303 animations, 2,000 written works and 1,000 songs.

Licensed products show
Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong International Licensing Show opened last week, attracting more than 18,000 industry players. Some 800 international brands and various types of licensed products in sports, lifestyle, fashion and art were featured at the three-day show. For the first time, China's Ministry of Culture led a delegation of more than 40 companies to the fair, aiming to promote exports of licensed cultural and creative merchandise.

Elevator IP alliance
An intellectual property alliance for the elevator industry was recently established in Nanxun district of Huzhou city by the city's local association and its counterpart in Ningjin county, Shandong province. It aims to improve IP innovation, protection and management and will set up a patent database on elevators and support products as well as help companies make major decisions through scientific analysis.

Global rights by US author
American author John Naisbitt has granted Jilin Publishing Group Co the global copyright on his new book Global Game Change, the first time a US writer granted the global copyright to a Chinese publishing house. Naisbitt said he wants to help China "have a greater say across the world". The recent published book said Asia, Africa and Latin America linked closely by China are becoming an increasingly strong southern economic belt.

Sino-Arab book portal
Ningxia-based Yellow River Publishing Co recently launched a Sino-Arab book copyright cooperation portal, cabooker.com, in Chinese, English and Arabic to help publishing houses find copyright trade partners to import and export books. The publisher has a biennial event for Sino-Arab book copyright cooperation and the trade has become much easier, said a spokesperson from the company.
