Online search system now in 9 languages
The online patent search and service system developed by the State Intellectual Property Office recently released versions in Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, French, Arabic and German to go along with its original Chinese and English versions. The system first went online in 2011. The developers have improved its user interface based on an analysis of international user preferences. The system can automatically update its information.

City govt funding to fuel inventions
The Guangzhou city government will invest 400 million yuan ($64.5 million) to spur the application of patents through 2019. Local patent owners will earn a subsidy from 1,300 yuan to 7,700 yuan after securing a new patent and will be awarded a 2,000-yuan bonus if it is their first patent. They will have a maximum funding of 16,540 yuan for their first invention patent if it remains valid for nine years, and 30,000 yuan for every 30 invention patents approved in the previous year.

Work on nuclear power plant unit begins
Construction on the fifth unit of the Fuqing nuclear power plant began last week with a goal to make the plant operational in about five years. The plant uses the million-kilowatt class Hualong One reactor design, known as a third-generation nuclear technology developed by the China National Nuclear Corp and the China General Nuclear Power Group. The reactor comprises 743 patents and more than 100 software copyrights that cover designs, fuel technologies, operation and maintenance. It has been exported to Pakistan and Argentina.

Authorities seize fake wines and drinks
The food and drug administration of Linshu county recently raided a factory that had been making fake wines and soft drinks from well water and food additives. Secreted in a farmhouse, the factory contained more than 1,750 boxes of wine with 14 types of fake trademarks, such as Changyu and Greatwall, along with 3,720 boxes of fake soft drinks, nearly 50,000 unused packages and some 100 types of labels. Authorities estimated the total market value for the products at more than 600,000 yuan ($96,660).
