Almost 200 women volunteers took part in cleaning up Ruili in Dehong prefecture recently. The women spent two hours sweeping up leaves and collecting litter from sidewalks along two roads.

It was the first time this kind of activity has been held, organized by the city’s women volunteer organization. The volunteers came from communities across the city and received praise for nearby shopkeepers and residents.

The organization was established in July after the city was named a pilot zone for social management innovation by the Yunnan provincial government. The organization now has more than 170 members.
