BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland's Taiwan affairs office will promote the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait through the rule of law, a mainland spokeswoman said on Wednesday.
The legal reform plan adopted last week at a key meeting of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee proposed "solidifying and deepening the peaceful development of cross-Strait ties through the rule of law," Fan Liqing, spokeswoman with the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a press conference.
The mainland will improve laws and regulations involving Taiwan affairs, standardize and guarantee ties between compatriots across the Straits and promote cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation in accordance with the law, according to the plan.
The mainland will use legal means to guard the one-China principle, oppose "Taiwan independence," enhance commitment to the one-China framework, and promote the motherland's peaceful reunification, Fan quoted the plan as saying, adding that her office will earnestly implement related measures.
