The accident occurred near the Hejiapo Tunnel on the Xiamen-Chengdu Expressway when a tank car rear-ended and almost crushed a black sedan, killing a female driver and a man in the front seat. A girl in the back seat was later saved.
Another seven vehicles were also involved in the pileup, resulting in a traffic jam lasting for hours and a long queue of nearly 10 kilometers.
The tank car had something wrong with its brake system, according to the driver.
The case is being investigated.
