An activity celebrating Mazu, the traditional Chinese goddess of the sea, will be held on June 11 in Putian, Fujian province.
The Mazu Cultural Week, an important part of the 7th Straits Forum that will open on June 14 in Xiamen, Fujian province, will attract thousands of Mazu believers from both sides of the Straits.
According to Lin Jinbang, board chairman of the Mazu Ancestral Temple in Putian city's Meizhou Island, there are more than 17 million believers in Taiwan. The ancestral temple is visited by more than 200,000 Taiwanese every year.
The six-day event will include a photo exhibition, a food fair and a symposium on Mazu culture.
