On August 8, 2010, the second anniversary of hosting the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Fuzhou held an event to publicize the idea of hosting the 8th Inner-Cities games in Fuzhou at Wuyi square.
China Inner-Cities games first began in 1988, under the permission of the State Council of China and it was hosted by the General Administration of Sport of China aiming to promote the development of sports and select the sport geniuses within the borders of China. China Inner-Cities games are usually held once every four years.
At present, Fuzhou is preparing actively to bid for the 8th China Inner-Cities games. An Olympic Center is under construction consisting of two large stadiums and one diving and swimming gym, worthwhile three billion Yuan. It is said that this center will be finished in 2014 and after that it will be utilized as the main stadium to host major international events.
