“Under the ground, there are comfortable shopping environments, convenient public traffic nets and adequate serving facilities.” It is not the imagination for the future but a reality in Fuzhou. Building a city underground is one of Fuzhou’s plans for the future.
Shimaobaihuo shopping square, covering forty thousand square kilometers, is a typical symbol for the life in the future. Due to the expansion of city and the explosion of population, space on the ground comes to its limitation.
Fuzhou has to face the same question caused by urbanization. And the plan to build a city underground has been listed on the agenda for the future. Chating park has set one good example. “19th century is the era of bridges, 20th century is the time of skyscrapers and 21st century will come to the underground space.” stated by Qian Qihu, a professor from Chinese Academy of Engineering.
To develop the underground city, at the same time, can save the cost of running and operation business and the cost of running a city. Those necessary infrastructures needed will be shared and utilized.
Fuzhou, in the long run, will be equipped with ability to run an underground city.
