East mainland city Fuzhou planned to build a large-scale trading market, where wholesalers from Taiwan would sell seafood directly to mainland customers, local authorities said Thursday.
Occupying an area of 10.7 hectares, the seafood market will feature a 150,000-tonne cold storage facility, said an official with the municipal government of Fuzhou.
Fuzhou, capital of Fujian Province, faces Taiwan across the Straits. The proximity to the island reduced transportation fees and would cut the prices of Taiwan seafood sold at the market, said the official.
Construction of the seafood market will start by the end of this year and is expected to be completed in 2012.
