In 2009, Pingnan County, Ningde City, Fujian Province planned to spend RMB 900,000 to strengthen the construction of rural highway safety projects.
Following the implementation of the “project of building 5000km-long rural roads a year,” great improvements have been made in the overall conditions of the rural highways in Pingnan County. However, during construction, due to the limitations of natural conditions and construction funds, the safety facilities of some rural highways are still insufficient or nonexistent.
In order to further implement the requirement that the development of rural highways shall “give priority to people’s well-being and public safety,” the county will place emphasis on the safety projects of county roads and important town roads in 2009 on the principle of “improving roads one by one.” It is planned to spend RMB900,000 in completing the safety projects of two rural highways 33.5km long in total.
Through the improvement of subgrades, side ditches, safety protection and other facilities, potential problems with traffic safety will be eliminated, the disaster alleviation and resistance of rural highways will be enhanced and the traffic safety condition of rural roads will be improved.
