Known mineral resources in the county include lead zinc, iron, copper zinc, sulfur, manganese, kaolin, magnesium, granite and rare earth. The granite here features many varieties, and is easily mined. Pingnan has a mi-subtropical maritime monsoon climate. The four seasons are clear. It is neither cold in winter, nor hot in summer. Rainfall is plentiful. The annual precipitation is 1,842.3 millimeters. The annual average air temperature ranges from 13℃ to 18℃.

Pingnan has beautiful landscapes and numerous attractions. Yuanyang Creek is a state scenic spot. Its four wonders have attracted visitors from around the world. Xianshan Pasture is an alpine pasture rare in northern China. Jiuxian Mountain features gorgeous peaks and beautiful pines. The mountain is also home to rare flowers, trees and animals and unique natural formations. The mountain is a popular destination for travelers who want to escape summer heat, spend an idyllic honeymoon or observe the unique biology. Others come for adventure, engaging in mountain climbing and other outdoor sports.

Pingnan county has an advanced transportation network. No 203 Provincial Highway runs through the territory. Asphalt highways lead to every township in the county. Pingnan is linked to Jiaocheng district to the southwest, borders on Zhouning county to the northeast and connects Zhenghe county to the north. Pingnan is adjacent to Jian’ou county to the northwest and meets Gutian county on its southwestern edges. The county seat is 170 kilometers from Fuzhou, 100 kilometers from Ningde, 135 kilometers from Saiqi Harbor, 130 kilometers from Sanduao and 95 kilometers from Gutian Train Station. In addition to its lush landscapes and advanced transportation network, advanced communications also help make the county attractive to outside investors. All towns and villages in the county have program-controlled telephone exchanges and digitalized transmission.

The local power grid is connected with the provincial power grid. The total installed capacity is 80,000 kilowatts. The county also has two water plants with a total daily water supply of 16,000 tons.
