Pingnan closes scenic spots for safety consideration

Baishuiyang and Yuanyangxi scenic spots in Pingnan county, Fujian province, was temporarily closed on July 23, to deal with the possible heavy winds and rain caused by Typhoon Matmo. All travel agencies in Pingnan county have been asked to stop receiving tourist groups, and hotels were asked to eliminate safety hazards.
Matmo, the 10th typhoon to affect China in 2014, made landfall on July 23 in Fujian province with a wind speed of 33 to 35 meters per second. Baishuiyang Management Committee asked Baishuiyang and Yuanyangxi scenic spots to assess geological hazards to avoid torrential floods and landslides, set up "closed" signs at the entrance of scenic spots, and evacuate tourists. Travel agencies are required to stop receiving tourist groups and take care of tourists in Pingnan. Hotels are required to reinforce the sign boards, lights and prevent flooding in the underground garages.
