Volunteer students from six universities, including Shanghai University, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University and Shandong Institute of Business and Technology, carried out a three-week volunteer activity in Jitou village, Pingnan county, Fujian province starting on July 18.

Conservation of cultural relics

The agricultural museum in Jitou village, with more than 10,000 items in its collection, was honored as a folk palace museum in eastern Fujian. The collection used to be in disorder.

Volunteers cleaned, measured, tagged and took photos of over 5,000 cultural relics, including wood carvings, Chinese parasol wood couplets and lacquer paintings.

Officials of the agricultural museum said volunteers helped the museum solve a hard problem and they showed the virtues of contemporary college students: care, meticulousness and assiduousness.

Volunteers gave lessons in art, music, PE, traditional culture and manners, encouraging local children to love their hometown, respect the old and explore the world by themselves. Volunteers came to children's families and had discussions with their parents, who were seeking better education.
