Fujian steps up intl cooperation in fishery industry

A total of 39 deals for cooperation projects in the marine and fishery industries were signed at the ongoing Fuzhou International Fisheries Expo 2014.
The amount of the contracts reached 15 billion yuan ($2.5b), which is a 22 percent increase over last year. The signings ranged from an overseas fishery base, marine tourism, marine biomedicine, deep-sea fishery trade, processing and distribution of aquatic products, and headquarters the marine economy to shipbuilding.
It is notable that Fujian, especially Fuzhou, the capital city, has increased marine and fishery collaboration with southeastern Asian countries.
Based on the agreements, the Rongsheng Agricultural Development Co will build an aquaculture base on the Natuna Islands, in Indonesia. The Fuzhou Honglong Marine Aquatic Co will invest 592 million yuan upgrading a deep-sea fishery base with a local fishery company in Indonesia.
The Anda Aquatic Co will also engage in marine cage culture in 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of waters off Natuna Islands. And the Fuzhou Rixing Aquatic Co will spend 185 million yuan on trades of aquatic products with a company in Malaysia.
