Pingnan calls for rural cultural protection

A Chinese Traditional Rural Relics Protection Summit was held on Nov 17-19 in Pingnan county, Fujian province.
The summit, themed "traditional village protection and beautiful village construction", attracted 200 experts in folklore, sociology, architecture, historical relics and art.
Experts discussed the methods and problems in protecting ancient villages, shared experiences and achievements in constructing rural areas, and sought new ideas to preserve and promote traditional rural cultures.
The summit presented performances of Pingnan intangible cultural heritages, including Siping Opera, a Siping marionette show, Pingjiang Opera, and local folk songs and dances.
The attendees also inspected historical villages and spots in Pingnan. The county has a total of 258 villages, of which 120 are well preserved and 12 rank as Chinese famous historical and cultural villages.
