Pingnan county, Fujian province, recently set up a local traditional wedding program, which attracted six newlyweds from Shanghai.
The wedding ceremonies started in Jitou village and ended in Jixia village, both of which are famous for the abundance of Chinese cultural and historical relics.
The rituals lasted for two days. On the first day, a seeing-off banquet was held in Jitou, which was set as the brides' home. Brides cried when leaving their parents, which is a folk custom in Chinese traditional weddings.
A reception banquet was held in Jixia on the second day. The houses in Jixia, which acted as the bridegrooms' home, were decorated with red ribbons and red paper-cut "blessings". The newlyweds experienced many traditional wedding procedures, including bowing to the gods, parents and each other, serving tea to their parents, giving away bags of money to the guests, and drinking cross-cupped wine.
