Customs and inspection and quarantine authorities in Fujian province have deepened their collaboration to create more convenience in customs clearance, Xinhua News Agency reported on Dec 3.
The two departments have jointly developed a system for cargo declarations. The cargo data will be recorded only once and will be shared between the two.
Customs and the inspection bureau will also carry out joint examinations on the same batch of goods. After the goods are cleared, the two authorities will send messages of verification to an electronic port system to allow the enterprises to claim the cargo.
Previously, exporters and importers had to go through separate measures for customs inspection and the quarantine authorities. Now the new inspection mechanism exempts them from such trouble.
The mechanism, which is being promoted in all port areas in Fujian, has helped to cut the declaration time by 30 percent and elevate the inspection efficiency rate by 50 percent, said an official of the Fujian Commerce Department.
Airport and seaport areas in Fujian have handled 176 million tons of cargo in the first 10 months of 2014, up 14 percent year on year. The foreign export and import volume reached 145 billion US dollars, up by 3.3 percent, official figures show.
