Pingtan launches maritime safety lecture

With the Spring Festival travel rush about to begin, Pingtan Maritime Bureau and Ao'dong township government jointly organized a maritime safety lecture for local fishing industry workers on Jan 12 in a bid to improve promote safety awareness and reduce the number of sea accidents.
There were 17 accidents in the seas near Pingtan in 2016, of which 10 were judged to be caused by human error, according to Shen Maozhen, deputy director of the Comprehensive Business Department of Pingtan Maritime Bureau. The bureau therefore believes that improving fishing workers’ maritime safety knowledge could help prevent further accidents from occurring in the future.

Officials from Pingtan Maritime Bureau introduced several accident prevention measures and a series of post-accident emergency measures to the workers during the lecture through analyzing case studies of accidents that occurred recently. They also explained some general marine safety principles.
The officials also spent time after the lecture talking with the fishing workers and answering their questions, as well as offering them their heartfelt good wishes for the new year.
