Wenxian Tianchi Lake National Forest Park is located in Longnan city’s Wenxian county, Gansu province, Northwest China. Surrounded by mountains, it is 100 kilometers north of Wenxian county.
Tianchi Lake is created by crustal movement during ancient times. The blocked Yanghe River course formed a lake in Tianwei Mountain at an altitude of over 2,400 meters. The lake extends 20 kilometers and 1,724 meters above sea level. It is 97 meters deep with an area of 80 hectares.
Tianchi Lake was named “Tianwei Qiu” (Qiu means pond in Chinese) for its location in Tianwei Mountain. It is 164 kilometers to the southeast of Jiuzhaigou Velly in Sichuan province and 130 kilometers to the southwest of Wudu Wanxiang Cave in Gansu.
