Several Yugur people gathered at the Yugur intangible cultural heritage protection center in Gansu province on Feb 3, to discuss traditional Yugur textile skills and how to make folk costumes.
The Yugur ethnic group is one of 56 official ethnic groups in China and its people are primarily found in the Sunan Yugur autonomous county, Gansu. The Yugur people mainly believe in Buddhism and engage in animal husbandry.
During gathering, a Yugur traditional costume maker and inheritor introduced Yugur costumes and culture and to the youth who put on their best finery. The Yugur county attaches great importance to passing down and carrying forward their culture and traditions and opened several centers and museums in 2014. Among the museums were the Chinese Yugur ethnic group museum, which opened in July, the Yugur intangible cultural heritage protection center and nomadic culture center.
