Lanzhou seeks further air pollution controls
Updated: 2015-10-09By Yang Fan ( chinadaily.con.cn )
To determine the reasons behind the recent pollution in the city of Lanzhou, Gansu province, local authorities have cooperated with the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences to formulate a long term plan from 2013 to 2017. The plan has the aim of preventing further air pollution and controlling existing pollution.
The city has already made efforts to curb pollution by reducing the use of coal and limiting the number of high-emission cars on the roads. It has also increased the amount of green coverage by planting more trees and building parks.
After a year’s effort, the city achieved 250 days of standard air quality readings in 2014, 57 days more compared with the 193 days achieved in 2013.
