Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu province, was honored as one of the top 10 happiest Chinese provincial capitals in 2015, according to a survey conducted by CCTV.

The other nine making the list of honors were the cities of Changsha, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Urumqi, Hohhot, Shijiazhuang, Nanjing, Hefei and Nanning. The results come from 100,000 households interviewed around the country.

Three main factors affected the sense of happiness of people in Lanzhou – health, marriage and sanitation.

Among all people surveyed countrywide, 50.81 percent said they feel happy and are satisfied with their lives and their city. The percentage in Lanzhou is even higher.

The interviewees in Lanzhou were greatly confident that their incomes will increase. The percentage of Lanzhou people who think their income will rise by at least ten percent is eight percent higher than the national average.

Many Lanzhou interviewees preferred gold as an investment last year.

Nearly half of the interviewees have traveled and are expecting to go sightseeing this year. Having time to travel is another important reason why many Lanzhou people feel satisfied.

Lanzhou city's government is working on a dozen living standard issues such as water quality to provide better condition for locals, said Yuan Zhanting, mayor of Lanzhou.

The government's efforts have paid off, as the city now gets some of its water from the Liujiaxia Reservoir 31.57km, meaning there are two water source areas and two water treatment facilities.
