Tree planting takes root in rural Gansu
Updated: 2016-04-11By Li Xiaoxu ( chinadaily.com.cn )
The warming weather and increasing rainfall have provided the perfect conditions for locals to plant trees in Weiyuan county in the city of Dingxi, Gansu province at the beginning of April.
The county launched its ten-year afforestation program in 2011, aiming to increase plant coverage, repair the soil and beautify the county.
After five years' efforts, around 20,000 hectares of land has been covered by trees and other plants.
Weiyuan county is home to the headstream of the Weihe River, the largest tributary of the Yellow River. Weihe River runs through Tianshui in Gansu and Baoji, Xianyang, Xi'an and Weinan in Shaanxi.
