Huining county, near the city of Baiyin, Gansu province has turned to reforestation to recover land, with 12.47 percent of it now covered, with 103,000 hectares more of both forests and grassland. It also provided 860 million yuan ($140 million) in subsidies for farmers and herdsmen, and raised 179 million yuan for a special reforestation fund, all of these bringing good environmental results, as can be clearly seen from the climate, water retention, and soil erosion conditions.
