As the harvest season came to Jingyuan county of Baiyin city, Gansu province this August, the county is expecting to reap 16,000 tons of Chinese wolfberry worth more than 1,000 million yuan ($156.3 million).
Jingyuan county, well-known for its high quality wolfberries, has 8,273 hectares of land where these wolfberries has been planted this year. Farming wolfberries has become one of the efficient money making ways for the locals here.
Rich in vitamin, the wolfberry or goji berry contains more protein than whole wheat. Dried goji berry is a deep-red fruit, about the same size as a raisin. It is very sweet and tastes somewhat like a cross between a cranberry and a cherry. The fruit has several health benefits including for eyes and can reduce cholesterol too.
