Cities above the county-level in Northwest China's Gansu province will all build digital cinemas, announced the provincial cultural promotion and action coordination leadership team.

The digital movie industry has experienced rapid growth in Gansu in recent years.

Gansu built 61 digital cinemas in 2015, bringing the total number to 123. Box office earnings amounted to 385 million yuan in 2015, an increase of 62 percent over 2014 and seven times that of 2010.

Going to the theater has become the preferred recreation for people in Gansu.

Cultural consumption is an increasing proportion of Gansu consumers' expenditures, especially in rural areas, and demand for digital movies, carton games and articles on culture and sports is rising.
