An NPC representative suggested Zhanjiang take advantage of the Guangdong-Guangxi Special Economic Corporation Area to better integrate with other cities in the Beibu Gulf Rim in terms of economic development.

Xie An, the NPC delegate, said the construction of the Guangdong-Guangxi Special Economic Corporation Area should be accelerated to strengthen the interactive development of Zhanjiang and Beihai, the starting point of the maritime silk road. The two cities both have witnessed rapid GDP growth in recent years, and boast abundant marine resources.

Xie said that the Lianjiang county-level city of Zhanjiang city and the Hepu county-level city of Beihai city are not only the copula that links Western Guangdong and Guangxi province, but also a pivotal area connecting the Guangdong-Hong kong-Macao economic circle and the Beibu Gulf Rim economic circle.

The area will also be the forward position for Guangdong to integrate into the Beibu Gulf Rim economic circle and corporate with the ASEAN countries.
