Xuwen county sees bumper harvest of lychees
By Xu Lili Updated: 2015-05-19
Xuwen county in Zhanjiang, South China's Guangdong province is famous for its lychees.
Xuwen's land mainly consists of red and sandy soil, rich in microelements.
Water used to irrigate lychee trees springs up from volcanic rocks about 200 meters deep underground, which meets the national first class water quality standard. Such water contributes to the blossoming of sweet and red lychees.
In the middle of May each year, 2,000 mu (133.33 hectares) of lychees in Beijie village, Maichen town, Xuwen county turn red and become the first to go to the market.
