Zhanjiang Book Fair to showcase latest tech
Updated: 2017-09-18
A Cloud Reading Experience Pavilion will make its debut at the 2017 Zhanjiang Book Fair which is scheduled to be held at Zhanjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center from Sept 20 to 24.
This year, the fair will highlight the application and promotion of science and technology in the process of acquiring knowledge. Using intelligent robots, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), the fair will show readers some of the latest to interact with information.
An intelligent interactive robot for disaster prevention, first-of-its-kind in China, combines facial and voice recognition with meteorological information. Once it recognizes people's actions, commands or meteorological questions, it can make corresponding moves and answers autonomously.
In addition to weather forecasting, the robot is capable of demonstrating the correct behaviors during a disaster. Meteorological knowledge and disaster prevention skills will be popularized through its interactions with users.

VR technology will be utilized to generate realistic images, sounds and other sensations to simulate people's physical presence in an immersive environment of mountain torrents and typhoons. It allows users to safely experience the destructive power of natural disasters.
The experiencing and testing system for disaster prevention integrates 3D effects, motion-sensing and VR technology to simulate the scene of a typhoon. Those who manage to escape in the right way will be rewarded with a certificate.

Furthermore, an AR-based meteorological studio will be open to the public. It will synthesize a virtual 3D scene created by the computer with user's real-time motion and stimulate the process of a weather forecast.
With a perfect blend of physical and real-world environment, the AR technology enhances user's perception of reality and revolutionizes the concept of reading.
