The continuous heavy rain has flooded a total of 18,240 mu (1,216 hectares) croplands by 8 am on July 29, according to Fangchenggang Agricultural Committee.
The rain has lasted four days. Many low lying croplands have been affected. Among the submerged croplands are 14,540 mu rice fields, 2,800 mu vegetable fields and the 900 mu fruit plants.
Fangcheng district was the most severely struck area, followed by Dongxing, a county-level city of Fangchenggang, and Shangsi county.
Fangchenggang Agricultural Committee has mobilized necessary rescue efforts and manpower to drain water off submerged croplands in a short time. To help recover agricultural products and reduce the cost of the disaster, the committee also placed technical staff to control and prevent possible plant diseases and insect pests around the city.
