Tmall creates sale history on Singles Day

Tmall, a B2C (Business-to-Consumer) online shopping platform of Alibaba Group created a new record in trading volume on Nov 11, as about 91.21 billion yuan ($14.33 billion), far more than the daily turnover of 57.1 billion yuan on the same day last year has been registered, informed an Alibaba Group official.

On the day, which is known as the Singles Day and also the 2015 Tmall 11.11 Global Shopping Festival, Tmall broke through the trading volume of 10 billion yuan just after 12 minutes and 28 seconds, and 74.83 percent of which volume came from mobile wireless end.

More than 30,000 brands offered about 6 million kinds of high quality goods for the shopping festival including 5,000 overseas renowned brands from 25 countries. Consumers from 232 countries and regions made a total of 467 million orders on the single day.

Data showed that the top three brands that made the most revenue were Cadillac, Buick and Audi in automobile; Haier, Midea and Letv in large appliances; Midea, Philips and Ecovacs in small household appliances; and Huawei, Apple and MI in mobile phone.

This year is the first year of the globalization of Alibaba Group. Tmall upgraded the traditional business model and first realized comprehensive big data driven to guarantee consumers' personalized shopping experience.

According to Hu Yong, professor of the School of Journalism and Communication in Peking University, the rapid upsurge of e-commerce in China is not only because the business model suits the development trend of China, but also attributed to the background of the "Internet Plus".

Experts say that with the large success of e-commerce enterprises such as Alibaba, more traditional industries and enterprises are likely to get to the Internet in the future, which will promote the O2O (Online to Offline) business mode and exert an influence on people's life widely and deeply.
