All 49 of the secondary highway toll stations throughout Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region are being dismantled, as their purpose of securing revenue to repay government loans is no longer needed.
The process of tearing the toll stations down began on Jan 1 this year and the roads will be open again in 15 days, according to the Guangxi government.
A local official said the clearing of the toll stations will be a great relief to road users, shortening journey times and making travel less expensive.
