The Longtan Deep Valley National Forest Park in Tian’e county |
The valley is 6 kilometers away from the county seat with elevation varying from 600 to 1,000 meters. It covers a total area of about 4,172 hectares, 3,000 of which have been utilized and developed. People can experience over 35,000 to 80,000 negative ions of oxygen per cubic centimeter here. It is a valuable “green” asset of the whole county.
There is plenty of rainfall in the scenic zone and the climate here is very comfortable. With a forest coverage rate of more than 95%, the Park boasts a lot of extraordinarily tall and old trees and a high biodiversity. There are almost 30 kinds of wild plants that are on the state protection list such as handeliodendron, paphiopedilum insigne, golden camellia, zenia insignis, camptotheca acuminata, and the nervate twayblade herb. There are over 600 otherplants. Rare animals as pheasant, musk deer, flying cats, Macaca monkeys, and masked civets live among the plants. It is a veritable treasure bank of species. Main scenic spots include the City View Platform, the Longtan Deep Valley, the Primeval Forest Area, the Orchid Garden, the Lion Cave, the Temple of Happiness and Longevity and the Dujia Village.
The Park is characterized by its valley scenery and karst landforms. The biggest feature is that an overwhelming majority of plants in the forests are in their primeval conditions. It is very similar to the karst forests in Libo County, Guizhou, a World Heritage Site. It is a rare primeval forest in the stone mountains in southwest Guangxi. Most of the plants in the scenic zone grow on rocks, on which there is no earth at all. All this mean that these plants are ecologically vulnerable. Once the ecological environment is damaged, it will take at least 500 years for it to repair itself. One feature of the trees here is that trees grow from and among the rocks.
