The government of the Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county plans to develop the county into an international tourism resort in five to 10 years.

As a sub region of Hechi in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Huanjiang was enrolled into the World Natural Heritage List by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in June, 2014. Its admission into the list was due to the area’s unique karst landforms, cone-tipped mountains and intact biodiversity.
