Guangxi traditions continue in Hechi

Celebration activities took place in Hechi-based Guangxi Modern Vocational Technology College on March 24, to celebrate the Shangsi Festival.

The Shangsi Festival, falling on March 30 this year, is a festival that is observed by Chinese ethnic groups including Han and Zhuang, to ward off evil spirits and natural disasters.

A variety of performances were held including Guangxi folk songs, bamboo dancing, embroidered ball playing, and stilt-walking, displaying the traditions in the Zhuang autonomous region.

As the birthplace of the famous folk singer Liu Sanjie, Hechi continues to flourish in its folk song-related culture. The Guangxi Theater pays the city regular visits and perform classic operas based on the life story of Liu.

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
