Fengshan's poverty alleviation efforts pay off

Fengshan county in Hechi has been promoting its poverty alleviation efforts in recent years to realize rural revitalization.

To date, villages in the county that have 20 or more households have had hardened roads connecting with each other, and the 98 villages or communities all have access to passenger vehicles.
The improvement of roads has also stimulated the development of the 10 poverty alleviation industries in the county.
It is estimated that the output of firs will reach 23,400 cubic meters in 2019, valuing 18.7 million yuan ($2.66 million), while that of oil-tea camellia seed will be 9,000 metric tons, with a total output value of 252 million yuan.
The 230,000 mu (15,333-hectare) anise plantation base is expected to yield 4,000 tons by the end of 2019, boasting a production value of 18.37 million yuan. The output value of walnuts in the county in 2019 will be 49.84 million yuan, while that of cocoons will hit 80 million yuan.
"We needed to wade through 16 streams and climb over several mountains to get to the town markets. It was usually more than a three hours walk," said Wei Zhouxin, secretary of Nabing village in the county. "But now with the roads constructed, it only takes more than 10 minutes to drive to the town market. People's livelihoods are getting better and better."
In addition, Fengshan has also been making great efforts to ensure people's housing security. Since 2016, more than 82.84 million yuan has been invested to renovate the 3,315 dilapidated houses in the county's rural areas.
There are currently 48,556 rural families living in houses with a security level of B or above in the county, accounting for 99.5 percent of the total rural households in the county.
Measures to ensure people's drinking water safety have also been carried out in the county in the past few years. Since 2015, 254 million yuan has been used to expand the Qiaoyin Reservoir and build the Shegeng Reservoir.
Since 2015, the number of water tanks built in the county was 5,583, with a total capacity of 335,000 cubic meters. A total of 334 centralized water supply works were built up and 18 pipeline network renovation projects were completed.
The county is also improving the living environment in the county's rural areas. Since 2015, the county has completed the declaration and construction of 65 eco-villages at the autonomous region level, 21 eco-villages at the municipal level, and eight eco-towns.
Three waste treatment centers were renovated and nine new garbage treatment centers were put into use in the county's villages. To date, the effective disposal rate of the county's rural garbage has reached 91 percent.
