Donglan invests $185.52m for affordable housing construction

Donglan county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region invested a total of 1.3 billion yuan ($185.52 million) in 2019 for the construction of affordable housing, the reconstruction of old and dilapidated buildings, as well as the transformation of shantytowns.
The county is scheduled to renovate 594 dilapidated houses in its rural areas in 2019. To date, reconstruction of 584 houses have started, of which 398 have been completed, with a total investment of 35.64 million yuan.
There are currently 74,031 rural houses in the county, of which 73,908 have met the housing standard, accounting for 99.83 percent of the total.
Donglan has also been devoted to rebuilding its shantytown areas to solve problems of traffic congestion, high building density, and incomplete public facilities in its old urban area.
In 2019, more than 50 units of 1,182 dilapidated houses in the county's old urban area were relocated to Xiangyang New Town, while construction of new buildings started before September, with a planned investment of 1 billion yuan.
The shantytown transformation work of 2018, which had an investment of 260 million yuan, was also advanced this year. Four high-rise residential buildings, with a total of 797 apartments, have been built up so far for the relocation of families in the county's shantytown areas.
In addition, Donglan invested 95.9 million yuan to promote the construction of demonstration projects showcasing a new type of urbanization of characteristic towns and villages.
