The Qibainong chicken industry is booming in Hechi's Dahua Yao autonomous county, and helped the county shake off poverty as scheduled in 2020, Hechi Daily reported on March 23.

Qibainong chicken, a Dahua county specialty, is known for its chewy and springy meat as well as its rich nutritional value. The native chickens mainly come from the rocky, mountainous areas of Qibainong township.

Dahua county was one of the four extremely impoverished counties in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. It has harsh natural conditions, with mountainous areas accounting for 90.1 percent of the county's total area, and less than 0.8 mu (0.05 hectares) of arable land per capita.

Efforts have been made in the cultivation and development of the industry of raising Qibainong chicken, as it had been set as a major industry for local poverty alleviation in Dahua. Qibainong chicken gained the national agro-product geographical indication at the end of 2016.

The county has launched a complete set of measures to ensure the quality of local Qibainong chickens, allowing farmers to carry out standardized control in processes such as feeding and medication.

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
